French Toast on the Grill with Sausages



  • 8 breakfast sausage links
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tbsp. maple syrup
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • sliced pound cake
  • powdered sugar
  • 4 cups fresh blueberries, raspberries, and/or other berries, optional
  • maple syrup, optional 


Set up grill for direct grilling and preheat to medium high. Brush and oil the grill grate. Grill sausages, turning frequently, til casings are crisp and nicely browned about 5 minutes. Move sausages to perimeter of the grill or to a warming rack. To make the French toast, put eggs and maple syrup in large bowl. Using a whisk beat just to mix. Whisk in milk and vanilla. Dip each slice of pound cake in egg mixture, letting it soak for 2 to 4 seconds per side. Put the cake slices on hot grate on the diagonal and grill til lightly browned, 2 to 4 minutes per side. Transfer French toast to a platter and sprinkle with powdered sugar. Serve with fresh berries and/or maple syrup. Makes 4 servings.
